About Me

I’m Karen Kalinowsky, and I am running for the mayor of Pittsfield. Listening to the people is at the core of my campaign I have met and worked alongside many of the residents in our city, who I want to have a voice in their government.

Personal Life: I grew up in Pittsfield I am one of sixteen children and understand the challenges of having limited resources. Pittsfield is the place where I married and raised my children. My personal ties to Pittsfield run deep, and my love for this city fuels my dedication to making it an even better place for everyone to thrive.

Education: master’s degree in security management

Career: For thirty-two years, I proudly served as a police officer in the city I call home.  During my tenure, I was a school resource officer for thirteen years and I worked with our local youths at the DARE, (Drug Abuse Resistance Education), camp for 24 years.  I understand first-hand the challenges our children and the schools face.

At-Large City Councilor: As your At-Large Councilor, I am proud of my voting record; I have advocated and voted to reduce your property taxes, your water and sewer bills. I advocated for a safer design for the bike path in our downtown. I supported our cities school paraprofessionals, cafeteria staff, custodians, and bus drivers for a more livable wage. I advocated for less administrators and more teachers in the classroom. We must work together to bring our schools back to a safe learning environment where all students can get a good education.

My experience has prepared me to take on the tough fights, but I know we can get more done when listening to each other and working together. Pittsfield is filled with smart, intelligent, generous people and I believe we all see a lot of room for improvement and as your mayor I will help lead the charge to a brighter future.
